Why have your leather refinished and why not replace it? The main reason for having your leather refinished is that tired leather reduces the desirability of a car, both to a present owner or a possible buyer. Obviously, whilst with the car you spend most of your time inside, so an interior's condition has a huge impact on the way you mentally visualise the overall state of the vehicle. A leather interior can often be the most costly item to replace in a car. This also has an effect on the desirability of a car especially to a prospective buyer as tired leather may incur large costs in the future. If a leather interior is showing signs of wear then refinishing it will significantly lengthen its useable life as the process makes the leather both stronger and more supple. The major reason for having your leather refinished rather than replaced involves cost. Although we would never suggest refinished leather will last quite as long as brand new hide the difference in cost means serviceable leather can be restored far more economically by means of refinishing. One must remember however, that if the leather is in very poor condition it is almost always a necessity to have it retrimmed rather than restored. The process performed during a renovation is good but it cannot perform miracles. If this is the situation, we can refer you to a trimmer who will take on the job for you if you wish. It is a common scenario that perfectly serviceable leather is ripped out of cars and thrown away because the owner has no idea it can be renovated at all. Some companies may recommend you have the leather replaced, even if it is not necessary, because this job will earn them far more than having it refinished. |
